Job Overview:
USD 281 is hiring a secretary at Hill City Junior Senior High School. We are seeking an individual with strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills to provide service to the students, families, staff, and community of USD 281.
Required Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work well with the learning community, parents, teachers, students, administrators and staff with courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity handling information and documents.
Be of good character, neat in personal appearance, dependable, reliable, prompt, and flexible and have pleasing manners and personality.
Proficient in computer software with an emphasis in word processing, data base, accounting skills and spreadsheets.
Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly, work independently, performing individual projects and routine matters with minimal direction or supervision.
Must have the ability to think clearly in stressful situations, and work well under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain student and school records.
Utilize a computerized system to access relevant reports, communications, and pertinent data.
Create, organize and maintain office filing systems.
Administrative Correspondence.
Provides customer service to visitors, parents, and staff.
Receives and screens phone calls, greets visitors and reviews and disseminates incoming mail.
Provides a variety of clerical and administrative support for administrators.
Types, edits and proofreads correspondence, reports, memoranda, etc.
Facilitates communications to administrators in emergency situations.
Maintains accounting records, makes bank deposits and disbursements, maintains time and attendance records.
Purchases supplies and monitors procurements.
Provides first aid service to students and staff in school nurse's absence.
Assists administrators and other staff members in the orderly, expedient and safe transition of students from one location to another.
Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Principal
Employee Day:
8:00 am-4:00 pm
Secretaries to the principal shall report to work two weeks prior to the first day of classes and remain two weeks after the last day of classes.

Personal leave, two days annually without accumulation.
Sick Leave 15 days annually; unused sick leave may be accumulated up to a maximum of 90 days.

Salary Information
This position pays $18.00 per hour.

Graham County USD #281 in Hill City, Kansas is located in northwest Kansas at the junction of US Hwy 283 and US Hwy 24. The district has two attendance centers; Hill City Junior Senior High housing students in grades 7-12 and Hill City Grade housing students PK-6. The enrollment of the district is approximately 380 students. Student to teacher ratio is low, averaging 12-16 students in a classroom. Hill City Junior-Senior High has many active clubs and organizations as well as programs in band, choir, art and FFA. HCJSHS students compete in most activities sponsored by the KSHSAA.. The district underwent a facelift in 2015 with the addition of a new state-of-the-art 8 lane track including new concessions and restroom building, immaculate renovation of the auditorium, new HVAC systems at both facilities, Parking lots and renovation of the Grade School playground along with other upgrades. USD 281 recently launched a technology improvement program and has added interactive boards to all elementary and many Jr-Sr high classrooms. Students in the district all have an individual laptop assigned to them, making us 1-1 district wide. In 2020 the district was recognized by the Kansas State Department of Education with three awards of distinction including the Commissioner`s Award.
